I type this waiting to get on a plane so you'll have to excuse any grammatical errors as I am typing on my phone.
It's been a while since I've been on a trip on my own and I have to admit it's a little bit odd. I grew up as an only child and so spending time on my own is something I am used to. These past couple years with kids has taught me to have greater appreciation for my alone time.
I fly 14 hours from Vancouver to Auckland and then a short flight from Auckland to Fiji. 14 hours matches the longest flight I have been on and I am looking forward to hopefully catch up on some sleep.
We just received word on the event schedule and it looks like my first race will be on Wednesday November 16th, which is the 15th in Canada. The first few days of the contest will feature surfing events which I hope to get out and watch. I will provide more info in an upcoming post.
This means I will have 5 days in Fiji to hopefully get acclimatized to the heat and paddling conditions. But it also means I will likely be racing on back to back days as they have scheduled the distance race for the 17th.
It's finally here and I'm excited to start this journey. I'm looking forward to some warm weather, good people and taking in some amazing scenery.
